The Alabama Council on Compulsive Gambling invites you to participate in this free, live, 1.5 hour webinar

presented by Dr. Brian Canfield, EdD, LPC, LMFT, nationally and internationally known counselor, professor and counseling advocate.

The webinar will focus on gambling addiction and research on various treatments and discuss the gambling efforts being made in the state.

 

PRESENTER: Dr. Brian Canfield is Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida where he teaches graduate courses and supervises student doctoral research.  He is a licensed psychologist, a licensed clinical mental health counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and certified master addiction counselor.  In addition to his university work, Dr. Canfield maintains a clinical practice and serves as a consultant on clinical practice issues throughout the USA and internationally.  He has worked extensively with substance use, abuse, and addiction; as well as compulsive gambling behavior - and the impact these issues have on relationships and quality of life.  Dr. Canfield is a Fellow and Past President of the American Counseling Association.  He currently serves on the Executive Board of the International Association of Psychology and Counseling. www.Intapc.org 

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

  • Provide an overview of the etiology of problematic gambling behavior, including a review of psychological factors and physiological mechanisms which lead to, and reinforce, compulsive behaviors

 

  • Review and discuss research finding regarding the efficacy of various treatment model outcome.

 

  • Discuss the establishment of therapeutic treatment goals with clients who desire to modify problematic gambling behavior.
