ATTENDANCE IS FREE FOR ALCA MEMBERS. CEs are FREE FOR ACTIVE ALAMHCA MEMBERS. CEs are $5.00 FOR ACTIVE ALCA MEMBERS (AND ALAMHCA NON-MEMBERS).
Join us as we discuss the potentially therapeutic function of video game discussion in counseling. A brief walk-through and demonstration of a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG) will take place, along with discussion about the ways in which these gaming experiences can be used as symbols and probes to prompt therapeutic dialogue and promote change.
Dr. Chris DaSambiagio-Moore, LPC, NCC, BC-TMH is Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at the University of North Alabama. Chris has experience working in college counseling and student affairs, career counseling, addictions, and private practice settings. His clinical and research interests include: emerging adults and college student development, working therapeutically with video gamers, addictions, sexual minority populations, play and mental health, and leveraging technology in counseling, counselor training, and supervision. He has served on the executive board of the Alabama Counseling Association in various capacities and is currently the President-Elect of the Alabama Mental Health Counselors Association.
The Alabama Counseling Association “ACEP #2001” is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. Participants completing the program may earn up to a total of 1 CE Hours.
