LEARNING OBJECTIVES INCLUDE:

Distinguish the various functions of the clinical counseling supervisor in the context of the professional development of counselors in a variety of counseling settings, including specific issues surrounding supervision for license.

 Discuss and integrate a working knowledge of the codes of ethics related to clinical supervision that promotes quality assurance and ethical processes in the area of clinical counselor supervision.

 Discuss common ethical dilemmas related specifically to counselor supervision.

Identify common models of clinical supervision to include the basic tenets, advantages and disadvantages for each model, including but not limited to virtual supervision.

 Learn how to formulate their own personal model of counselor supervision.

 Learn how to screen potential supervisees to determine if appropriate to provide supervision (i.e. pre-screen interview components, core qualities, personality, contracts)

Understand different roles and issues involved in the supervisory relationship once established: such as trust, recovery status of counselor and supervisor, the role of power, and the working alliance, supervisee burnout, professional development and proper evaluation, and issues specific to the license process.

Identify at least four appropriate tools and strategies to evaluate the competency of a supervisee (clinical performance appraisal), and meeting the training/development needs of in ways consistent with clients' welfare (gatekeeping of the profession).

 

 

PRESENTER: LESLIE PHILLIPS, LPC-S, NCC, ACS, BC-TMH

Dare to Dream is owned by Leslie Phillips, LPC-SC, NCC, ACS, BC-TMH and works with those who "Dare to Dream" to reach their goals. Leslie Phillips is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Counseling Supervisor, a Nationally Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and Board Certified Telemental Health Provider. She has been in the field of mental health since 1997, and has over 15 years of Clinical Experience, providing services in the Huntsville, Guntersville, Arab, Decatur, Athens, and Moulton Alabama areas.  Leslie has a Master's Degree in Counseling and Psychology from the University of West Alabama.  Her experience includes counseling in a variety of settings, ranging from private practice to professional organizations, as well as mental health centers. Leslie has experience in supervising and managing mental health programs, staffs, and subsequent services, as well as ensuring quality assurance and performance improvement. She also has experience in providing training for mental health professionals. Leslie oversees the program "Leslie Phillips Seminars®" which hosts continuing education seminars for mental health professionals, primarily hosted in the Northern Alabama area as this program is an NBCC approved continuing education provider, and an Alabama SW continuing education approved provider. In addition to this practice, Leslie has provided supervision for those seeking state of Alabama LPC licensure since 2011,and is one of only 4 approved providers by ABEC for the Counseling Supervision Training required for those seeking their Supervising Counselor license. Leslie also teaches Undergraduate Psychology and Human Service courses with Columbia College.
