Many therapists want the comfort and therapeutic benefits of having a facility dog. Many are utilizing their pets as therapy animals and do not understand the ethical and legal issues this could cause. This program will educate professional counselors, mental health professionals, & social workers on the legal, ethical, and practical implementation of incorporating a facility dog into their practice. Additionally, participants will learn appropriate channels for obtaining an adequately trained facility dog and how to incorporate them into their practice. Ensuring mental health professionals possess the knowledge and tools necessary to identify and obtain a properly trained facility dog is of the utmost importance for the safety of the client and the handler.
