Children exposed to domestic violence experience trauma on many levels.  This presentation will look at the long and short term repercussions of experiencing this chronic trauma.  Topics will include the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, attachment injuries as a result of trauma, and the effects of chronic stress on brain development.

Objectives:

1.  Participants will understand the immediate effects of domestic violence on children of different ages and developmental stages.

2.   Participants will be able to identify details of the brain state model and ways to apply this model to children experiencing trauma. 

3.  Participants will understand the role of attachment in typical childhood development and the way that trauma disrupts this process.

Is There an Imposter Among Us?

This course will focus on the experience of “Imposter Syndrome” among counseling professionals.  Presenters will normalize this common experience and identify ways to assist counselors in managing the impact of self-doubt on personal mental health and professional efficacy.

Course Objectives:

1.  Participants will understand the definition of imposter syndrome and ways that this phenomenon presents within the profession.

2.  Participants will be able to identify at least two ways that the experience of imposter syndrome impacts the counseling process.

3.  Participants will be able to identify at least two strategies for combating imposter syndrome once identified.  

 

The presenter:

Sarah Cabler, LPCS is certified in TFCBT, trained and experienced in EMDR and theraplay.  She has worked as a counselor for 15 years specializing in trauma and domestic violence, has been an owner in private practice for 4 years and holds master's degrees in both counseling and industrial and organizational psychology.
